LifeSpa’s Ayurvedic Cleanser/Toner is a revival of an ancient cleansing formula. Chickpea flour is employed as an exfoliating scrub that removes oil, dirt, and cosmetics, leaving the skin soft, nourished, and glowing. Ayurvedic herbal stars Neem, Amalaki and Triphala combine with a coconut lipid extract and glycerin to create a delicate, non-drying lather. The soft scent of tangerine lends a crisp, clean finish.

Directions: Apply a quarter-sized amount to the palm of the hand and gently massage onto face with warm water. Rinse and repeat if desired. Follow with Ayurvedic Blooming Lotus Mud Mask and/or Ayurvedic Royal Glow Facial Moisturizer.

Ayurvedic Skin Cleansing

As you may have heard by now, today’s soap may not be the best cleanser. Soaps today have strayed far from the pure mixture of water and fat that they used to be. Most soaps now contain fillers, synthetic saponification agents, emulsifiers, and fragrances.

On top of being potentially toxic (in the case of soaps laden with chemical fragrances and fillers), soaps can compromise skin by breaking down its delicate ecosystem. The vast majority of westerners have scrubbed their skin so clean with soap that many of the natural oils have been washed away, leaving most folks in desperate need of a moisturizer. Sadly, few moisturizers actually moisturize. Mostly, they hydrate or sometimes plump up the surface layers of the skin without deeply moisturizing.

It is absolutely crucial to first cleanse and detoxify the skin before moisturizing. Because of this, we recommend to first focus on deeply detoxifying and exfoliating the skin with this purifying, yet gentle, Ayurvedic Crystal Clear Cleanser/Toner.

The basics of a good daily cleanser are to first soften and gently moisturize, and then to exfoliate the skin. This ensures that the skin will not be irritated in any way. To achieve this, we use chickpea flour, also known as gram or besan flour, as a base, which is naturally both exfoliating and moisturizing.

From there, we need to approach the skin much like we approach the villi of the gut. My favorite formula for this is Triphala, which is comprised of 3 Ayurvedic fruits commonly used to rejuvenate, cleanse and tone the inner and outer skin.

I included Neem in this formula for its purifying and beautifying benefits. Neem has been dubbed the “Queen of the Skin” in Ayurveda. Its role as topical and internal support for skin care is one of Neem’s greatest glories.

These Ayurvedic ingredients are blended with a naturally-occurring amino acid, a coconut lipid extract and glycerin to create a non-drying, cleansing lather. Once the skin has been deeply cleansed and rejuvenated, our Ayurvedic Facial Moisturizer can be applied.
